There’s nothing more exciting than landing in a new city, your head swirling with anticipation, ideas and recommendations.
On June 7th, 2015, I, therefore, decided to pack my bags and travel to Lisbon, Portugal, and start a new life, a new job and leave behind the Netherlands. Only 11 months later, I decided to move again and continue my journey towards Dublin, Ireland, where I’ve spent 3 years, 3 months and 11 days of my life. I had my ups and downs, but all in all, I’ve learned to love the country, the people and the friends I’ve made along the way.
For the last 6/8 months of living in Ireland, I didn’t really feel at home anymore, which made me decide on moving AGAIN, and this time, I felt that it was time to move back home. Back home to my family, back home to my friends and back home to the life I’ve made for myself in the Netherlands before I decided to leave.
So, on August 1oth, 2019, I packed my life into several suitcases and hopped on a flight back home. It’s been exactly 2 weeks now of me being back in my home country, and although I am thrilled to be back, it also kind of still feels like a holiday at the moment.
I started a new job last Monday, and I moved into a new home (together with the best person I could have hoped for). I’m currently trying to settle into my new life, and learn to adapt to Dutch culture again and let me tell you, this is surprisingly difficult after being gone for more than 4 years.
Although change may not always be good, only through change we avoid regrets in life. For now, I’m incredibly happy with the choice I’ve made about going back home. We’ll see what the future brings.
